Soaps

Heat 6 lbs. of lard in an enamel kettle
In a separate enamel pan stir together 13 oz. of lye and 5 cups of cold water
Heat to 90-95degrees
Slowly pour the lye solution into the melted fat stirring with a wooden spoon
Simmer and stir until thick enough to hold its shape about 30 minutes
Add for smell: 2 Tbsp. lavender, citronella, rose, rose geranium, rosemary, cloves, cinnamon, sassafras, lemon grass or lemon, olive oil, thyme oil, sage
Color your soap with juice of fresh strawberries
Pour to a depth of 1 & 1/2 inches in a greased glass or enamel pan
Cool overnight
Cut into bars and remove from pan after several days
Allow to age about 2 weeks.
Shaving Soap: Fill a glass mug with finish soap
Add 1/4 tsp. of sage oil or clove oil or add 1 Tbsp. of powder sage leaf or powder clove
Allow to cure for 1 week
Lather Soap: Add soap bark hers (contains siphoning which creates lather with water)
