As in the days of Noah?
[Ps. 93:3] The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves.
[4] The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.
There are two possibilities for the fulfillment. Either or both could be under development during the Tribulation Period. First, the flood could be indicative to the world’s most overwhelming war. Rashi, a twelfth century rabbi, wrote that the term is a metaphor for the ‘enemy hordes who seek to sweep Israel away. They raised their voices and threaten Israel with extinction. Even today, Jewish scholars say this refers to the Gentile nations’ who will gather outside the gates of Jerusalem for the final war of Gog and Magog.
G-d is mightier than the noise of many waters, is the subject of Isaiah’s prophecy in 17:12-13. ‘Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters! The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters; but G-d shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off…’
Second, the description may well be that of a worldwide flood-perhaps not as devastating as Noah’s deluge, but global, nevertheless. Such a flood could occur during the Tribulation Period when G-d pours out His seven vials of wrath upon an unbelieving world. An exploding sun could melt the polar caps. You may recall Y’Shua said in Matt. 24:37, But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.’ Furthermore, the angel Gabriel spoke of a flood to Daniel 9:26, when he said …and the end thereof shall be with a flood….
The Revelation account of seven angels pouring out seven vials of G-d’s wrath could produce a flood which would update all of the coastal areas of the world. As the fourth angel pours out his vial of wrath upon the sun, mean are scorched with fire. This could be describing a nova or explosion of our sun. if such a thing were to occur, it is estimated that temperatures could get as high as six hundred degrees. The heat of the sun could melt the polar caps, thus raising the levels of eh oceans some fifteen to twenty feet. This would produce a worldwide flood.
As the fifth angel pours out his vial of wrath, darkness covers the earth. This could be the result of such a nova. Were our sun to explode, the brilliance would last only a short time, then there would be darkness. Joel described such a scene in 2:31, ‘The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the G-d. Isaiah 30:26 put it this way, ‘The light of the moon, shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold..’ Yet in another passage, Isaiah 13:10 depicted the opposite, ..’the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.’
Thus the fourth and fifth vials become clear. When the sun explodes, there could be a short period of heat that would melt the polar caps, dry out the rivers (including the Euphrates), and create huge clouds around the world producing hurricanes, tornadoes, and hailstones weighing a hundred pounds a piece. Tectonic pressures will cause earthquakes, level mountains, and move coastlines as described in Rev. 16. one thing is certain, Ps. 93 prepares the world for the day of G-d’s vengeance.
This psalm is a direct continuation of Ps. 92 and is designated as the ‘Song of the Day’ for the sixth day of the week, because on that day G-d completed His work and donned the grandeur of His creation. The footsteps of Sabbath begin to be heard. It is the fourth psalm of Moses and is dedicated to Benjamin, in whose territory (Jerusalem) the Temple will build. Indeed, the Temple will be rebuilt- apparently in the near future.
