THE PEACE OFFERING

[Lev. 2:1] And if his oblation be a sacrifice of peace offering, if he offer it of the herd; whether it be a male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the LORD.
The primary significance of the peace offering was benefited by the peace of knowing and experiencing G-d’ forgiveness, fellowship, and anger. Today the Messiah is our peace offering. Eph. 2:13-18. Peace offerings could be eaten on the day it was sacrificed, or on the day after, but not on the third day. To eat this sacrificial meat on the third day would have serious consequences 19:5-8, you will bear his iniquity and the soul shall be cut off from the people. The peace offering could be a male or a female, but not a bird. An ox or a lamb with an overgrown or stunted member could be offered for a freewill peace offering, but not for a votive peace offering 22-23. Because of the consequences for family to observe the laws of the offerings, one must be very certain what offering he was making, and then do it in accordance with all the laws of G-d had laid down. Thus there was a built-in safeguard against mindless ritual, so you don’t sacrifice with out giving it some serious thought. The Israelites worship was to involve his whole heart, soul, mind, and strength.
