Seducers

[Jude 1:16] These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.
These are murmurers, the word here used does not elsewhere occur, though the word murmur is frequent, Matthew 20:11; Luke 5:30; John 6:41, 43, 61; 8:32; 1 Corinthians 10:10. Comp. John 7:12; Acts 6:1; Philippians 2:14; 1 Peter 4:9. The sense is that of repining or complaining under the allotments of Providence, or finding fault with G-d's plans, and purposes, and doings.
Can you picture a person speaking in a whisper, partially hiding his mouth to avoid being overheard? It is unlikely that he is sharing words of comfort or praise. Most often he is gossiping, backbiting, and slandering. Then we must deal with people who constantly complain. This person is never satisfied, and the churches must have at least one of these folks on every board. It seems there is a call upon them to be negative about everything and everybody. G-d included these malcontents in His list of people that He will judge.
Complainers are literally, finding fault with one's own lot. The word does not elsewhere occur in the New Testament; the thing often occurs in this world. Nothing is more common than for men to complain of their lot; to think that it is hard; to compare theirs with that of others, and to blame G-d for not having made their circumstances different. The poor complain that they are not rich like others; the sick that they are not well; the enslaved that they are not free; the bereaved that they are deprived of friends; the ugly that they are not beautiful; those in humble life that their lot was not east among the great and the gay. The virtue that is opposed to this is contentment--a virtue of inestimable value.
Walking after their own lusts - A murmuring complaining temper, indulged and expressed, lays men under a very bad character; such are very weak at least, and for the most part very wicked. They murmur against G-d and His providence, against men and their conduct; they are angry at every thing that happens, and never pleased with their own state and condition in the world, as not thinking it good enough for them. Such people walk after their own lusts; their will, their appetite, their fancy, are their only rule and law. Those who please their sinful appetites are most prone to yield to their ungovernable passions.
Great swelling words spoken when they make pretensions to wisdom and learning, or seem to attach great importance to what they say, and urge it in a pompous and positive manner. Truth is simple, and delights in simple statements. It expects to make its way by its own intrinsic force, and is willing to pass for what it is worth. Error is noisy and declamatory, and hopes to succeed by substituting sound for sense, and by such tones and arts as shall induce men to believe that what is said is true, when it is known by the speaker to be false.
Have you ever had to deal with a person who speaks very highly of you, telling others how wonderful you are, and then when you are not around, they criticize and lie about you? This person is quick to flatter if there is an advantage in it. This same person is given to hero worship. Who is the star of the day? This is not limited to the entertainment world or the sports arena. These hero worshippers are often active in the body. "Our pastor is the best preacher, the most gifted leader ever to come to our church." “I just love pastors.” Then they are gone. Some other pastor is now the beneficiary of their attentions. Why do you think Jude included this category of people in His epistle? Remember we are earnestly contending for the Faith. Such discernment exercised without the unction of the Holy Spirit and the compassion of Y’Shua will always cause hurt and division. We must always walk softly before the L-rd in these situations. Love and compassion must be balanced with wisdom and the integrity of the body. Compromising the standards of holiness for the sake of unity is not an option. We pray for those that despitefully use us, but we do not promote them and cover our eyes to their transgressions.
Having men's persons in admiration is showing great respect to certain persons, particularly the rich and the great. The idea is that they were not just in the esteem which they had for others, or that they did not appreciate them according to their real worth, but paid special attention to one class in order to promote their selfish ends.
Are you following the Spirit in your choices of entertainment, friends, and appetites? Jude spoke of people who walk after their own ungodly lusts. This means that they allow the lust of the flesh to dictate their standards of decency and morality. Right and wrong is determined by opinion, this is how I feel. The Bible says their conscience has been seared as with a hot iron. Indulgence overwhelms judgment. Ask yourself; is the Holy Spirit or the lust of the flesh more likely to influence my decisions when it comes to choosing what book I read or what movie I watch?
Because of advantage - trying to net-working and rub shoulders with people of importance because they hoped to derive some benefit to themselves!
Guards yourself against seducers and take heed that you think it not strange (so as to stumble and be offended, and have your faith staggered by it.
