[Gen. 50:26] So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
Coffin – in a wooden coffin, which the Egyptians store away underground with the dead remaining in a standing position.
The outside of the coffin was engraved with the likeness of the dead person’s face.
The coffin was made of sycamore, which the Egyptians called ‘Pharaoh’s fig,’ there were also stone coffins.
Embalm: was to remove the brain and the internal organs and fill with Myrth and Cassia.
Then salt the body with Nitzer for 40 days.
Joseph was embalmed to be taken abroad for burial.
Egyptians custom was to put a painting of you on a stone, 70 days to complete.
You split the body open and removed all the organs.
Putting a hole in the roof of the mouth and in the back of the head, to remove the brain.
The body is place into a salt solution, which draws out all the moister then they, stuff the body and sew it up.
Wrapping up the body with cloth and paint it with tar.
The reason for embalmment was to live forever; scientist can not duplicate it even today.
They painted a face of you on the stone.
Six things about Joseph:
