Spirit of Leviathan
Strong’s 03867 1) leviathan, sea monster, dragon a) large aquatic animal b) perhaps the extinct dinosaur, plesiosaurus, exact meaning unknown It appears to be a large fire breathing animal of some sort. Just as the bombardier beetle has an explosion producing mechanism, so the great sea dragon may have an explosive producing mechanism to enable it to be a real fire breathing dragon. The 41st chapter of Job describes Leviathan who is said to have been a crocodile but is identified here as pride and contrasted prophetically between God and man: Job 41:1 Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down? After the L-rd spoke these things to Job, he repented in dust and ashes. G-d was not telling Job about a sea monster or a whale or crocodile, He was speaking of the sin of pride. Pride is the monster that gets in the way of doing G-d's will, now as much as it was then. David also writes of Leviathan in the way that brings it more up to end-time prophetic events concerning the judgment to come. Ps. 74:14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness. Ps. 104:26 There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein. The prophet Isaiah in writing of the last days, Leviathan symbolizes the triumphant Judgment Day when G-d will punish and triumph over the threatening evil. The vineyard of the L-rd is protected during this time, Israel is mentioned here, not Judah. Isa 27:1 In that day the L-RD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea. According to legend, the Leviathan was a fire breathing creature of such immense size that the sea boils when it swims on the surface. It ruthlessly and fearlessly rules over all the creatures of the sea. The Leviathan's skin is like a double coat of mail, with overlapping scales as large as shields on its back, and as sharp and hard as broken pottery on it’s under parts. Swords and harpoons will simply bounce off such protection. It breathes smoke from its nostrils and flames from its mouth which is rimmed with teeth. Its fins radiate a brilliant light and its eyes are like the glimmerings of dawn. There were originally two leviathans created, but when it seemed as if the pair might destroy the earth with their combined strength, G-d killed one of them. The "garments of skin" fashioned by G-d for Adam and Eve, also known as "garments of light", were made from the skin of the slain Leviathan. The Leviathan is one of the three creatures which will be served at the banquet feast at the end of time. Afterwards, its skin is to be stretched as a canopy from the walls of Jerusalem to illuminate the world. Legend has it that in the banquet after Armageddon, the carcass of the leviathan will be served as a meal, along with the behemoth and the ziz. Leviathan may also be interpreted as the sea itself, with its counterparts behemoth being the land and ziz being the air and aerospace. In the Jewish apocalyptic writings it is foretold that Leviathan will break out of captivity at the end of the present era but will suffer a second and final defeat at the hands of G-d (2 Esdras 6:52; 2 Baruch 29:3-8). The apocalyptic version was probably influenced by parallel Iranian beliefs. In the New Testament, the many-headed dragon of Revelation chapter 12 shares a number of characteristics with Leviathan—in particular, it functions as an embodiment of forces hostile to G-d. In later Christian lore, Leviathan came to be identified with the "great fish" in which Jonah spent three days and three nights (Jonah 2:1), and subsequently with hell. In demonology a leviathan is every aquatic demon. They are great liars. Leviathans can also possess persons, being very difficult to exorcise; they try to possess every person, but especially women. According to demonologists, a list of seven demons who had specific control over each of the seven deadly sins, with the powers of inducing men and women to commit these. The Apocryphal Book of Enoch gives the following description of this monster's origins: 'And that day will two monsters be parted, one monster, a female named Leviathan in order to dwell in the abyss of the ocean over the fountains of water; and (the other), a male called Behemoth, which holds his chest in an invisible desert whose name is Dundayin, east of the garden of Eden.'- 1 Enoch 60:7-8 The demons and associated sins were: Lucifer - pride; Mammon - avarice; Asmodeus - lechery; Satan - anger; Beelzebub - gluttony; Leviathan - envy; Belphegr - sloth. The Hebrew word for twisted or coiled was livyathan and may be a concept adapted to Biblical usage from a Canaananite myth. In general, leviathan is a word signifying an animal, writhing or gathering itself into folds. Leviathan is a most cruel enemy and reigns over pride and the prideful. This serpent is what has risen up out of the sea of humanity to take the sons of men under and destroy them. The great serpent satan rose up in pride against the L-rd because he wanted to be boss. As long as there is pride in your life, Messiah is not your master. If Leviathan is your master, you cannot work in the L-rd's anointing. Leviathan is the master of so many that have loved their own selves and exalted themselves in this generation above their brothers that the L-rd will come in all His fury for a righteous judgment. While the church is in the wilderness and sluggish, those in pride have had their way but in the Day of the L-rd they will be brought to the poor state that they always have been but too proud to notice. Spirit of Leviathan than would be: 1. A liar 2. Pride 3. Lover of self 4. exalter of self
