666

[Rev. 13:18] Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
[The number Six hundred threescore and six is, in the first place, a symbol of the greatest imperfection, for it is the sacred number seven less one, repeated thrice. John says that it is a human number, it is the number of a person’s name. Now, in both Greek and the Hebrew alphabets, the letters also serve as numerals, and it was a well-known technique to add up the letters that comprise a proper name.
A further complication arises from the fact that some ancient manuscripts of the book of Revelation give the number as 616 instead of 666.
666 referred to Nero a ruler who was still on the throne. He ruled until June of 68 A.D. This is a warning that demanded an immediate heeding. The Hebrew letters carried a number value; this was a masked way of saying that Nero was the beast who was a threat to the believers. This was a common way of communication mystery symbols related to biblical themes among the Jews that a complex numeric scheme developed as a science known as Gematria and has been used by Jewish mystics for millennia. The Jews took the name of the reigning Roman emperor, which could not be mentioned outright without losing one’s life. This name was Nero Caesar and in Hebrew a pronounced Neron Keisar.
Nun = “n” = 50
Resh = “r” = 200
Vav = “v” or “o” or w = 6
Nun = “n” = 50
Kuf = “k” or q = 100
Samekh = “s” = 60
Resh = “r” = 200
Sum of these numbers is exactly 666. On the other hand, since his name can equally well be spelled without the N, if we omit the final N, the total will be 616. There does not appear to be any other name, or a name with a title, that satisfies both 666 and 616.
Whether there will be one or more future Anti-Messiahs with the same spirit, we do not know. What is certain is that during the first century Nero Caesar was the man of lawlessness persecuting the church. It is shows present times.]
