Studying G-d's Word

Every inspired scripture has its use for teaching the truth and refuting error or for reformation of manners and discipline in right living, so that the man who belongs to G-d may be efficient and equipped for good work. (2 Tim. 3:15-16)
Deep bible study also produces spiritual maturity - Messianic in you. You will find life-changing experiences through a thorough study of G-d’s Word, observing what the bible says about the church and Israel and what man has done with it.
One third of study time is spent in prayer and worship. This prayer time is divided into four categories: before the study, while observing what the scripture really says, while interpreting what it means and when applying it to yourself or to those whom you are teaching.
First, you pray about your personal preparation. Praying for cleansing before starting to study establishes a clear communication with G-d. The expressing, in prayer, the hunger and thirst after righteousness that you feel in your heart, assures you of G-d’s filling. (Matt. 5:6)
Next, it is important for you to pray, L-rd, remove all preconceived ideas about this portion of scripture I am about to study. It is always possible that something you have heard or studied previously has not been correct. Praying for G-d to remove all preconceived ideas (for the study time) will enable Him to reveal fresh insights to you.
Also pray that G-d will take control of the study time so that all observation, interpretations and applications will be truth.
Then ask G-d to be your teacher, inviting the Holy Spirit to be operative in you as you study. In John 14:26, Y’Shua said that the Holy Spirit would teach you all things. Paul said in Ephesians 1:17-18, the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of (their) understanding being enlightened.
A good bible study always includes three elements: observation, interpretation and application.
OBSERVATION - So many of our ideas are built on what we think the bible says, rather than what it actually does say. Pay attention to pronouns, plural pronouns, verbs and adjectives. They will tell you the whole story of what the scriptures says; all it says and in context. Plus to whom a portion of scripture is written.
INTERPRETATION - Check word meanings from original manuscripts and for information on how the cultural settings influenced what was written.
Paul said in 1 Tim. 4:13 to give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. In the interpretation we study in depth the meaning of a passage. Minimum study aids include a good commentary, a bible dictionary, a bible atlas and a scholarly dictionary for word study. You must discipline yourself to obey the command of 2 Timothy 2:15, Study to show thyself approved unto G-d, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth. Research is hard work and time consuming. Word of caution; don’t dissect the scripture so long that it doesn’t speak to you anymore.
APPLICATION - Take what you have observed and studied and apply them to your life, one by one, the precepts that He tells us. Precept upon precept; line upon line, Isaiah 28:10. Letting His Words abide, take up their residence in you. (John 15:7) Change comes when you become a doer of the Word and not a hearer only. (James 1:22-25) The observations are thrilling; the study is exhilarating, leading to application to your daily life. One of the primary reasons for reading and studying the scriptures is to provide the Holy Spirit with the Word to bring to our remembrance when we need it. (John 14:25-26)
It is a process tucking the Word of G-d deep down in your heart by study and memorization. (Psalm 119:11) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (John 1: 14)
Let the Word be made flesh and dwell in you.
