G-d's Provision 1981

[Gen. 22:5] And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you,
[Come again to you – both of them? I believe Abraham intend to do as G-d ask, but he was a man of faith and believed G-d would restore his son to him, for G-d said Isaac was the son of the convent.]
[6] And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
[Laid it upon – is a foreshadow of the Messiah caring His cross. The cross was an X shape, tying wood together in the middle, to be carried on one’s back.
Isaac - was 25-28 years old.
Knife – was a tool used to slaughter animals, in a ) shape.]
[7] And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?
[Were is the lamb? – Isaac was beginning to have a understanding of the situation, for he was taught about G-d from Abraham, and to follow Him at all cost.]
[8] And Abraham said, My son, G-d will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
[Isaac is a foreshadow of the Messiah, as a willing victim. Abraham was in unbounded confidence that his son, though sacrificed, would, in some miraculous way be restored (Heb. 11:19).]
[9] And they came to the place which G-d had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.
[Abraham built an altar – had not the patriarch been sustained by the full consciousness of acting in obedience to G-d’s will, the effort would have been too great for human endurance; and had not Isaac, then upwards of twenty years of age displayed equal faith in submitting, this great trial could not have gone through.
Bound –Assuming at this time it was Isaac’s request, for Abraham was an old man who could not have put Isaac upon the alter unless he was willing to be a living sacrifice unto G-d. So why the binding? Now here is the golden nugget! A sacrifice had to be perfect with out any blemish, and Isaac did not want to be found a unfit sacrifice, an feared his flesh would react when seeing the blade and he may jerk away, becoming scratch and causing a blemish.]
[10] And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
[See Heb. 11:17-19.
Slay – translated: sacrifice.]
[11] And the angel of the L-RD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
[The angel…called,.. – The sacrifice was virtually offered – the intention, the purpose to do it, was shown in all sincerity and fullness. The omniscient witness likewise declared His acceptance in the highest terms of approval; and the apostle speaks of it as actually made (Heb. 11:17). Angel of the L-rd – Judges 13:18.]
[12] And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest G-d, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
[Lay not thine hand upon the lad – divine compassion and mercy.
Now I know – we are free will agents, and make our own choices.
Only son – the 1st legal son.]
And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
[Lifted up his eyes – opening Abraham’s eyes to the nature of G-d and to the nature of human experience.
Thicket – symbolizes the crown of thorns.
Ram – a substitute to human sacrifices. The Shofers are made of ram’s horns because of this.]

The Father has always provided for His people: the place, companions, and materials needed. Sometimes you just have to walk in faith, trust and believe.
